LARES-2 satellite was launched successfully from European Space Agency’s spaceport, Guiana Space Centre, Kourou, French Guiana, on July 13, 2022. It was launched at maiden flight of VEGA-C rocket.
LARES-2 (Laser Relativity Satellite) of Italian Space Agency is upgraded version of the LARES satellite currently in orbit; Principal investigator, I.Ciufolini, designer A.Paolozzi. LARES-2 is a 42 cm sphere covered in reflectors to be monitored by ground station lasers. The goal is measure to an high accuracy the frame dragging, or the Lense-Thirring effect predicted by General Relativity.
Prof Gurzadyan was present at the launch as of LARES team.
