In 1992, GLCA was transformed into the Garni Institute of Space Astronomy (GICA). At certain periods of time, the organization was part of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defense Industry of the USSR.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cosmo.yerphi.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/P5260014-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7115\" src=\"https:\/\/cosmo.yerphi.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/P5260014-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cosmo.yerphi.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/P5260014-2.jpg 639w, https:\/\/cosmo.yerphi.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/P5260014-2-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>The work carried out at GIKA actually traces the history of space astronomy, since\u00a0<strong>the first launch by Armenian astronomers under the leadership of G. Gurzadyan was carried out on February 15, 1961<\/strong>\u00a0during a solar eclipse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The founder of the institute and its director until 2002 was Grigor Gurzadyan.
