The choice of types of celestial bodies is determined by their expected or assumed activity in the region of wavelengths shorter than 500 A. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">This primarily applies to the following categories of objects:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">high temperature stars;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>X-ray sources;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">white dwarfs; symbiotic stars;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">cores of planetary nebulae;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">planetary nebulae;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">former cores of planetary nebulae;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">flaring stars;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">crowns of cold stars;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">objects of type RS CVn;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">quasars; active galaxies;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Wolf-Rayet stars;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">former novae and supernovae.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The choice of specific objects of observation was determined by the requirement that they be sufficiently far from the galactic plane, when observations in the region of wavelengths near 500 A and shorter become possible due to the weakening of interstellar extinction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The task is accomplished using three elements: a telescope, a camera, and a spectrograph or spectrographs. Both direct images of objects in the sky and their spectrograms are recorded by a CCD-based electron diffraction system with their subsequent transmission to Earth via radio telemetry communication channels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Optical system of the VESTAL observatory<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The VESTAL observatory was developed in two versions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Option A<\/strong>. Telescope \u2013 Parabolic hyperbolic Cassegrain oblique incidence<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Spectrograph &#8211; Oblique Incidence Rowland System<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Option B<\/strong>.
